Coming In
p:m joyfully welcomes DJ Sofa to the expanding roster. Now firmly established as a premier new-gen jungle artist, across 3 tracks Sofa draws influence from some of the best mid- to late-‘90s and early ‘00s artists and labels - Tom & Jerry, Reinforced, Nico, early Optical, Doc Scott, the Bristol sound, DJ Trace, Digital & Spirit, Breakage - and sprinkles their Finnish magic on top.
* Tracklist:
A1. Coming In: evokes hazy memories of summer ’94, and conjures an easy rolling vibe via skippy breaks, old skool bleeps, classic vocal sample, soaring pads, a random bird squark (!), and heinous bass that will push any sound system to its limit. Murder.
A2. The Guests: enters murkier depths with an eerie pad and hi-hats reminiscent of the classic No U Turn sound, warm analogue beats, and a mutating bassline that’s equal parts Full Cycle and Virus. A little different from Sofa’s usual output but no less weighty, built 4 Da Cause.
B. Boiling Point: a smokey and intriguing noir-like intro gives way to a dark synth riff, before dropping into an invigorating pitched amen workout, complete with killer punchy sub bass, muted vocal clips, and euphoric string that lifts the atmosphere higher. Hot.
